Iwona – Grandma, why did Jesus leave Heaven and come to earth? – I asked as a child at least once a year.
– To save us from sin. – answered my grandmother.
– Aha … .. – I commented, however, remaining with a question mark, because I did not really know what my terrible sin is, that the creator of the world had to go down from the sky and from that higher one, to which all the balloons fly.
A dozen years later
– But why would Jesus, being God, that is, with total power, would want to become a flawed man and yet be crucified? Couldn’t it be arranged otherwise? – we talked with friends. – It does not make sense. – My childish belief in what went beyond my understanding has subsided. Not that I consider Jesus a sucker, but damn …. Well, He did not suit my image – the omnipotent hero.
Was it really impossible to do this in a different way?
The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s;
But the earth He has given to the children of men. (Psalm 115:16)
A man could make all decisions within an unrestricted free will; create, build, reproduce, name and disobey your Creator. BUT because God gave the word, he did not withdraw it, because then everything would go down. God’s order is built on His word. It was before everything that arose later.
Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power. (Hebrews 1:3)
A man may not understand this because we are used to whipping up with words and breaking promises, but what God says is holy. He does not talk, he does not throw words into the wind. His words have power.
My covenant I will not break,
Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips. (Psalm 89:34)
Sure, God could have said, People, I’m disappointed with you, I’m going back to everything I’ve said. From now on, I’m limiting your will.
He could also act as probably a large part of us would do: To destroy Satan, through whom man was deceived. And he did not do it. Why?
We must explain clearly: Lucifer was sent to Eden to serve as an angel. He was not Satan yet. He also had no authority over the physical world because he did not have a human body – Adam and Eve had it and it began to pinch him. Total power for man, without any restrictions? How to get it without being in the authority of a human being? I already know: use a human being to achieve my goal!
God gave control over the earth to a human being. We do not know what power and angels have – but we know that they are ministering spirits – they serve a man at God’s command and listen to Him only. They do not have a human body, therefore their existence is defined differently – only an individual in human skin would rule on Earth. And Satan wanted the man’s authority to pass him on. Using trick.
The given authority means what?
If I give a house to someone and that person becomes the rightful owner, I can not knock on the door after a year or two and say that I do not like the color of the façade and the new home owner should change it. The property file has been handed over, the owner of the house can do what he likes, even if he would like to smash all the windows and make a casino there.
This is more or less the authority that God gave man – as the owner of the Earth.
It’s them!
We are in a place where we would take Satan for tailcoats and dust off the face of the Earth! Meanwhile, he seems to say to God: But I am not guilty of anything … the people whom you created used your free will that you gave them and gave me your authority. I did not force them. If I am to be punished, then you must do something with them.
It is hard to disagree. Satan used deception and ultimately the man gave Satan what he got from God. Satan only needed one; a physical, human body, to obtain the power given by God only to someone who is a human being.
What else we have lost
The life. I do not mean those experienced moments – human 70 or 100 years. It is only a moment of reality in the eternal God who is above time. But life in His world = in His presence. Certainly not with the consequences that came with the decision to disobey. The deep intimacy of God and man was broken. Adam hid in front of God. God called him as usual. Adam did not want to appear for the first time. For the first time in the presence of his Creator he felt uncomfortable.
God immediately decides that in such a state man can not live for eternity. (Genesis 3, 22) Actually … it would be a chore. Because man still has free will. And now neither the human body nor its spirit is joined with God anymore.
And now HE is entering
The one who limited his own authority over Earth, giving it to man. He limited himself to making space for the free will of the beings he created and loved. For people. In order to be able to fight with an equal weapon, in order to have power given to man, the Son of God decides to become a human being, to regain his authority and return it to humanity. Therefore, he takes on the form of a man. He is called the last Adam.
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. (1 Corinthians 15:22)
History has come full circle. The first Adam lost, death came upon him. Last Adam – Jesus Christ; also subjected to temptation, won, won life. He regained our authority.
If he came as a ghost (because God is a spirit, John 4:24), the fight would be unequal. He could just as well have destroyed everything on earth with Satan, pretending that the word had never been spoken once. Then Satan would accuse God of untruth. This in turn means that everything that God has ever created would make no sense, because God put everything on His word.
And here is the story: A man taken by deceit renounced his rule on earth and (I believe that he would not really do it if he knew what the consequences would be) made Satan the ruler.
Such a story took place later in the life of an individual man, Esau – he sells his birthright for a bowl of lentils, a special blessing, which his father gave his first son – thus Jakub, his younger brother tricked him from this father’s unique blessing. He takes over the authority of his older brother, who very much regrets what he did, but it is too late – the words of his father, whom the brothers deceived, were spoken.
That’s how God loved man
That he became a man. And there is not even how to compare it. The Russian oligarch, somehow incapable of meeting his own wish, living thirty years of a tramp life? Something like that.
That’s what Jesus Christ did; Son of God who participated in the creation of the world. We read that
– he took the form of a servant (means not only from God he became a man, but also a servant)
– a lie has never been found on his lips
– he was despised and abandoned
– he was abused
– …. but He, led to the slaughter, did not open His mouth
– he was taken from the world of the living and made a grave for the criminals to whom he was counted
– he interceded for criminals without ever being a criminal. (Isaiah, chapter 53)
God gave up His divine power to live on Earth for thirty-three years as a man who was followed by one crowd, while others hated Him. For years, month after month, week by week and day by day, and finally second by second, waiting for one thing: to live all of his life to die tortured, spat on and insulted in the worst way at that time. In order to regain our authority; mine and yours. And so that my life and my life do not have to end in a black abyss without God, without light, but it really blossomed with Him.
It’s done.
For you and for me.
Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they said among themselves, “Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?” 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away—for it was very large. 5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.
6 But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. (Mark 16:2-6)
And if he is not in the grave, it means only one thing: he wants to DWELL IN YOU : -) Let Him in.
